Clash of Kings and What's Next

When I started this blog I thought it'd be easy to just zip through the books and write my thoughts on each chapter. Unfortunately it's not like that. My experience with this series has become more and more dominated by the writing of entries rather than just reading chapters. It'd be nice to just read without having to stop and write each time, even though I will really enjoy rereading this blog. I've also returned to school, and I simply don't have the time or energy to continue regularly updating this blog beyond a snails pace.

Thus, this blog is on hiatus. I won't be posting new entries for Clash of Kings -- I won't even be reading the book. Once break comes around, when I'm refreshed and have some more time, I'll probably pick it up again. Some of you may ask, "how can you wait so long to find out what happens??" Well, I confess there were moments in Game when I really just wanted to zip through it. But this blog has really made me a rather patient and meticulous person -- I was never more than one or two chapters ahead of where I was writing. Its surprisingly easy to stop here and not pick up Clash, especially knowing this series isn't completed yet.

Thanks to everyone for reading (and sending me feedback emails), without you I wouldn't have finished this blog. When I started, I never thought I'd get so many readers and comments on every entry. I hope you guys come back when I start this up again.

  2. Well, I waited several years to read Clash of Kings myself. Of course, that was due to Martin, who didn't publish the novel for two and a half years after I'd read Game of Thrones.

Otherwise, I can't imagine not continuing immediately. But you're not me.

It was great while it lasted. Take care of yourself.

  3. I hope you read Clash of Kings soon. I couldn't stop reading after I started, but you're obviously stronger-willed than me. All the best, hope to see this popping up on my RSS feed again soon :)

  5. No sweat...Martin fans are used to waiting unreasonable amounts of time to be satisfied...Come to think of it...so is my wife...Anyway, you kicked ass and it was fun while it lasted.

  6. Yeah, give it a year between each one and by the time you've read all four the fifth might be almost finished...

  7. Awesome. I started school too so I can relate to how it goes. Thanks so much for sticking through the whole book and actually putting the effort to doing a good job (hence the hiatus :). And yeah, haha. As a Martin reader, we all get used to waiting for good things.

Until then, I'd enjoy the ride. Good luck with your studies!

  8. Awww, that's too bad. When will your next break will be? I assume you mean next summer.

In any case, thanks for the blog so far, and like Heatcramp said, we fans are used to waiting. :)

  9. This way, even if you never pick up another ASOIAF book, the blog stands as a project complete in itself :)

  10. WTF oh no! Very disapointing-someone linked this blog from another site, and I have really enjoyed following along from your point of view.
When you find time to pick up the series again, I think you'll like it even better-the whole series is great but it really picks up steam in the next two books.
Hopefully you'll go back to blogging as well-I know I'm not the only one that is interested in your reaction to certain events in ASOS!
    Thanks for the blog :)

  16. I _love_ your writing about GREGOR!
I was forced to laugh out loud as you described several TV-Shows staring GREGOR.

    You made my day :=)

  17. You did a magnificent job, even though I found your humor offensive several times. If you do continue with A Clash of Kings, please refrain from making fun of Sansa. After all, we've all been through what she's been through - it's hypocritical for us to point fingers.

  18. Ok...I can't help myself...I'm seriously curious as to how someone can be so easily offended. Am I some kind of freak? I can honestly say that I have rarely been offended by anything unless it was a direct attack on my family or friends. And even then, only a handful of times in my 36 years of existence. Can someone explain this to me and site specific examples? Maybe I am simply too uncaring, but I couldn't imagine being offended by anything that Jason has written.

  19. No your perfectly fine, Roland is just a faggot. cant you tell?
    "Roland of Gilead" haha obviously

  20. Only the first Roland of Gilead was legit. It's easy to tell the difference. I'm the only with class.

  21. As if people who sign their posts aren't already gay enough, this faggot does it with a fictional character.

I'm so glad this shit is over.

  23. Thanks for the ride. It has been a real treat to read your comments and reactions, topped with such humour. I'll check back from time to time to notice when you might continue. :)

  24. Hey Jason, will you start to read that second book anytime? Would be great, if you could post, we are waiting...

  25. Great job so far! I just read through all of the entries and couldn't stop laughing. You seem to notice all of the things that sound really bad out of context, and make fun of the characters in strangely hilarious ways (frequent sexual jokes included). The Disney Awards thing was nice as well. There's not so much actual analysis, but as you said many people have done that already.

I hope you update soon; school is kind of annoying, but I've just finished exams (insert shout of joy here) so I can finally start of A Storm of Swords...
